FAQs for North End Wellness
Boise Counseling
──
Welcome! Below are some of the most common questions we get about starting therapy at North End Wellness. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to help.
How do I get started?
Finding the right fit for counseling is one of the most important parts of therapy. Contact or email us and we will discuss which of our therapists would be the best fit for you. If none of us are a good match for any reason, we’re happy to help you find a counselor who better meets your needs.
Do I need counseling?
Whenever we want, and need, to change or improve things in our lives, we find professionals to help us—from doctors to plumbers to roofers. Therapy is no different. You may or may not need it, and we’re happy to help you explore that.
Sometimes we, as therapists, go to therapy ourselves—sometimes because we’re struggling, and sometimes just to thrive. Having someone outside of ourselves to guide the way can be incredibly helpful. If you have any questions, we’ll offer honest feedback that supports your best interest. If you begin therapy with us, we’ll periodically assess your progress to make sure it’s effective and aligned with your goals.
What should I expect in therapy?
You can expect a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where you can speak freely. We know many people feel anxious before their first session—but once you’re here in our comfortable environment, most clients quickly feel at ease and begin to make meaningful progress.
You are the expert in your life. We’re here to help you create the change you want, and we tailor your therapy to your current needs. If you’re engaged and apply what you learn outside of sessions, you’ll likely notice positive changes relatively quickly.
What types of therapy do you offer?
We offer a variety of evidence-based therapies including:
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
- Rapid Resolution Therapy (RRT)
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Internal Family Systems (IFS)
- Mindfulness-Based Therapy
- Trauma-Focused Therapy
- Solution-Focused Therapy
- Narrative Therapy Your therapist will work with you to select the approach that best fits your needs.
Do you offer virtual or telehealth appointments?
Yes! All of our clinicians offer secure telehealth sessions for clients who prefer to meet from home or who live outside the Boise area. Let us know your preference and we’ll match you accordingly.
What age groups do you work with?
Our therapists work with individuals across the lifespan—including children, teens, adults, and older adults. Let us know who is seeking therapy and we’ll connect you with someone experienced in that age group.
What if I don’t feel a connection with my therapist?
The therapeutic relationship is a huge part of what makes therapy effective. If it’s not a good fit for any reason, we’ll work with you to find another therapist within our practice—or refer you to someone outside of it. We want you to feel confident, supported, and empowered.
How often do I come in for treatment, and how long are the sessions?
That depends on your goals and the issues you’re facing. Most clients start with weekly sessions. As you make progress, we may space sessions out more.
Sessions typically last 50 minutes, though we can adjust the length if needed. On average, many clients attend between 3–6 sessions, though some stay longer based on their needs.
How do I make the most out of therapy?
Here are a few ways to get the most from your sessions:
- Show up open and engaged.
- Practice what you learn between sessions.
- Engage with resources like books, videos, or podcasts related to your therapy goals.
- Reinforce the positive by noticing when things are going well and affirming yourself.
- Set achievable goals and build gradually.
- Use mindfulness tools like meditation and deep breathing.
- Share what you’re learning with others—teaching can reinforce your own growth.
Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?
Some of our therapists offer evening and weekend availability. Please let us know your schedule and we’ll do our best to accommodate.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Everything you share in therapy is kept confidential, with a few exceptions required by law (such as if someone is in danger or if there is suspected abuse). We’ll go over confidentiality in more detail during your first session so you feel fully informed.
How do I cancel or reschedule an appointment?
Please give at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations or missed appointments will incur a $100 fee. You can call or email us to make changes to your appointment.
What should I know about insurance and payments?
We do not accept insurance directly, but many clients with out-of-network benefits still receive reimbursement. We are considered “fee-for-service” providers and accept full payment at the time of service.
If you have out-of-network coverage, our billing agent will submit claims on your behalf. Reimbursement checks are usually sent directly to you. We accept cash, checks, and HSA cards.
What are your fees?
- Initial Evaluation and Assessment: $250 (50–60 minutes)
- Individual Therapy: $175 (50–60 minutes)
- Private Pay Assessment: $200 (50–60 minutes)
- Private Pay Individual Therapy: $150 (50–60 minutes)

What makes North End Wellness different?
We believe that when therapists are well cared for, clients are too. We focus on creating a practice where our clinicians are supported, fulfilled, and empowered—so they can show up as their best selves for you. Therapy at NEW is compassionate, down-to-earth, and effective. We combine professional skill with genuine care—and it shows.
What is therapy like?
Every therapy session is unique and tailored to your specific goals. Therapists typically discuss the main issues in your life, and sessions are usually held weekly for about 50 minutes. Therapy can be short-term to address specific concerns or longer-term for deeper personal growth. You might be asked to read something, track behaviors, or reflect between sessions. Active participation is key. You can expect compassion, respect, and understanding—along with real strategies and practical tools for positive change.
What usually happens in a counseling session?
While every session is different, here are some common elements:
- You set the pace and choose what to share
- Sessions are conversational—you won’t lie on a couch
- Therapists may use tools like whiteboards, worksheets, or visual aids
- Emotions may come up, and we’ll guide you through them
- You might get homework: journaling, reading, or practicing a new skill
- Progress comes from participation—what you put in matters
Is therapy right for me?
Therapy is a personal choice. People seek therapy for many reasons: depression, anxiety, life transitions, or a desire for deeper self-awareness. Therapy can help you make meaningful change, process emotions, gain tools for coping, and navigate relationships more effectively.
Do I really need therapy?
Everyone faces challenges. Seeking therapy isn’t a sign of weakness—it’s a strength. Choosing therapy means you’re taking responsibility for your wellbeing and committing to growth. Therapy helps you break negative cycles, develop insight, and move forward in healthier ways.
How can therapy help me?
Therapists support you with tools and insights to manage anxiety, depression, grief, stress, life transitions, and more. Whether you’re stuck, overwhelmed, or just trying to grow, therapy offers fresh perspectives and tangible change strategies.
Is medication a substitute for therapy?
In some cases, a combination of therapy and medication may be ideal. Medication can relieve symptoms, but therapy helps you understand and resolve root issues. We recommend consulting with your doctor to determine what’s best for your situation.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes, your privacy is important to us. All therapy sessions are confidential unless required by law to disclose:
- Suspected abuse of a child, dependent adult, or elder
- If there’s a serious threat to others
- If there’s a risk of self-harm and the person refuses safety interventions
